Texts — UniLang is a platform created by linguists and language teachers for collecting and organizing illustrative linguistic material in context and in actual usage. The texts gathered here are intended for scholarly, linguistic, and educational purposes, especially for studying and teaching languages through examples of real language use.
Texts may be accompanied by additional linguistic annotation: interlinear and glossed translations, lexical comments and vocabularies, information on grammatical forms, and other explanations. These materials make it possible to examine language through discourse and to connect grammatical or lexical description with concrete examples of use.
This approach reflects a view of language teaching as work not only with abstract rules, but also with meaningful texts. The Modern Language Association report Foreign Languages and Higher Education: New Structures for a Changed World (MLA — 2007) emphasizes the role of authentic cultural material in language learning: “Literature, film, and other media are used to challenge students’ imaginations”; in the same context, it refers to the acquisition of functional language abilities, the practical capacity to use a language.
The platform is intended for students, teachers, linguists, translators, and more broadly for anyone who wants to study a language through the texts in which it is actually used. The platform’s materials are prepared by linguists, language teachers, and members of the Modern Language Association (MLA). For individual materials, the specialist responsible for preparation, annotation, or commentary is indicated.
In addition to the Texts portal, UniLang.fr resources from the FIAS network (Paris, France) bring together research and reference materials on linguistics and language sciences from descriptive and comparative perspectives: grammatical, lexicographic, analytical, and documentary materials on the structure of languages, their variation, and their development.
